On the Road

Gwen is a vivacious and blithely sarcastic truck driver, returning to driving semi after an auto accident cost her leg and the lives of multiple people. From her home base in Missouri, she sets out to conquer her fears and get back on the road. A desperate, injured pup comes careening into Gwen’s world and she nurses him to health, naming him Tank. He fills her heart and quiets the nightmare filled dreams she has been experiencing.
It is time to head towards home, an old farm place in Missouri, shared with her sister Jax. Together, they are renovating it into the farm of their dreams. Gwen and Tank descend underground into a massive mine, now a storage facility. Emerging hours later, devastation, wrought by a solar storm destroying the electrical grid, meets them at the entrance of the mine. There is very little modern technology that civilization has come to depend on left. Her truck is now a rare commodity that others need and will kill to take. Gwen must survive over a thousand miles away, the return trip home.
Taking much longer than planned, she helps others and needs help after she and Tank are gravely injured in an attack. Civilized society turns ugly when the lights go out and life as the world knows it retreats a hundred years.
Gwen must make it back to her beloved farm or remain stranded on the East Coast of the United States, as the country descends into chaos. Contemplating what kind of future, she has in this insane new world-if she can only get home. America’s truck drivers are problem solvers, and this is only the beginning of the problems!
