The House at Virgil Street: A Young Poet’s Memoir of Los Angeles

A young girl’s odyssey through the streets of Los Angeles is a survival story centering on the racial and cultural diversity of the Hollywood and Silver Lake communities in Los Angeles in the early 1960’s. Women are primarily homemakers, and do not have careers. After WWII and the Korean wars, the family is central to American life, but social welfare institutions to uphold it are practically non-existent.
